Hereford is a jumps racecourse, located near the border between England and Wales. Having first opened in 1771, the course closed its doors to the public in 2012, after its owners Arena Racing Company failed to secure a new lease for the track. Racing returned after a four year absence and some refurbishment in 2016, and the course is now once again a regular part of the fixture list, allocated 11 fixtures in 2017.
Hereford's right-handed circuit of about a mile and a half is almost square and has nine fences, of which the first after the winning post is taken on a turn. The home turn, which is on falling ground, is pretty sharp but the other bends are easy. Races have a tendency to be well run and the ground can get very testing in midwinter. The course restarted racing in October 2016 after a four-year hiatus.
